Memorial Day Weekend is the unofficial start of Summer! We started the Saturday with an early morning. My mom, Emily, Mikka and I went to the beach with our school’s international student program. Mikka and I spent the day in the sand, playing with putty we got from a local toy shop.
We then headed up to Camp Blueberry, where we rode ATV’s. Emily’s friend Cozi joined us for the weekend, and the older girls claimed Thimbleberry Cottage, leaving Mikka and I with too many options for our sleeping arrangements. Of course, we ended up sleeping on the floor of the library loft, where we were conveniently located near a TV.
We stayed up late watching a show, and fell asleep on a few blankets on the carpet. Not the most comfortable rest ever, but it worked.
The next day, Kinley and her family arrived, and we made homemade pizzas on our pizza stove outside. We listened to music, made our pizzas, and roasted s’mores. After dinner, Kinley’s family left, and we giggled our way through countless conversations.
We slept in the bunk room, all on one twin bed, which was somehow just as uncomfortable as the floor. There was this pesky mosquito that wouldn’t leave us alone. I got bit three times and Kinley got bit twice.
The next day, we were feeling crazy, so we went out into the woods and cut Mikka and Kinley’s hair. It was really fun, and we had nothing but a spray bottle and nail scissors. I felt so honored that my friends trusted me with their hair. It actually turned out pretty great, and we received many compliments at school today.
I would love to hear about your Memorial Day stories in the comments. Thanks for reading!
