Last year, while we still lived in Reno, my family threw an epic 80s dance party, which I used as a basis for my Lucy Star novel: The Case of the Vanishing Vinyl. Now that we’re back, we can have a totally new guest list and kick it up a notch.

This time, my parents decided to add a “no kids” rule. You may be thinking, duh, Liv, you’re a kid. Well luckily, I get to choose some friends to keep me company while their parents have a great time dancing in neon tracksuits. Of course, that means Mikka, Kinley, and Ann.
The plan? Dance for six hours straight until I can no longer feel my shins and eat banana muffins at 4 AM. This is my chance to be a crazy kid and have a great time with my friends without worrying about anything else.

My mom goes all out for these things. We’ve got pictures of famous 80s stars, blacklights, and disco lights that sync up to the music blaring through the surround-sound speakers.
Emily decided her and her friends get the basement for the sleepover, leaving us with my room, which has a twin bed and a trundle. Let’s just say, if we need to, we will be sleeping in Emily’s room.
Update: Next Day
The party was amazing! I loved spending time with my friends while my parents and their friends had a great time too! Guy, your dancing was fire! Ed, good job being the life of the party! Don, congrats on the outfit win!
We ate three chocolate bars, banana muffins, smoothies, eggs, and tater-tots for breakfast. Then I remembered…I have cheer tryouts tomorrow, and track districts on Tuesday… Whoops! It was so worth it!
