My life can be unpredictable at times, as most people’s lives are, but lately, I’ve fallen into a routine that I find very beneficial to my mental, physical, and spiritual health.
As I’ve mentioned before, I shower as soon as I wake up. My alarm is on the other side of the room from my bed, so I force myself to stand up to get blood flowing. When in the shower, I wash only my face and body on most days. On Saturday mornings I wash my hair before letting it air dry.
Once out of the shower, I wrap myself in a warm robe and begin my super simple 3-step skincare routine. If you already washed your face in the shower I highly recommend this:
- Toner – I use Thayer’s Toner, and I switch up scents every time the season changes. I just use a cotton ball to apply the toner to my face, and feel instantly refreshed.
- Moisturizer – I use CeraVe unscented moisturizer, which doesn’t cause breakouts or irritation, which are huge pluses.
- Sunscreen – I’m only fourteen, but I’m telling you: sunscreen is a MUST. I could go on and on about sun damage, but I won’t. Just know, wearing sunscreen is super easy and will save you a lot of spots and wrinkles later.
You may notice I don’t wear makeup. I have a few reasons for this. First of all, I don’t want to spend a lot of money on something that I don’t really care about. There’s nothing wrong with makeup, but in my next few points, you’ll understand why it isn’t worth the hassle. Secondly, I have majorly sensitive skin and have an allergic reaction to almost everything. I also had really bad acne for a while and makeup made me breakout. Finally, a year or two ago, I got an eye infection and my whole eye swelled up for a week because of the wrong mascara. That’s just me, but I can’t risk it anymore.
After my morning skincare, I brush my teeth, get dressed and then write in my journal. Again, I recommend a journal. I have a five-year memory journal, and as someone who is super-sentimental, it’s perfect.
I then usually go downstairs and make brunch. Our school has really early lunches (I’m talking 10:30!) so I usually don’t eat breakfast and instead throw a whole avocado into my lunch box, along with some Trader Joe’s Chili Lime seasoning. It’s delicious and goes on almost every fruit or vegetable. Sometimes I will pack soups or vegetarian chicken nuggets, but I always eat an avocado. They are so delicious and so healthy.
I usually some free time after that. I’m trying to read the Bible every day this year in a 365-day plan to finish the Bible, so I sit down and read.
Once I’m done, I fix my hair, which I usually put into a braid or bun the night before. Sometimes I overnight curl my hair with rags, which is prettier than it sounds.
Then, I put on a coat of tinted lip balm and hop into the car with my mom and sister. I’m so blessed to have such an amazing family, and I’m grateful every day that I get to go to such an amazing school with such a supportive environment. (Thanks guys! Love you!)

After a long day at school, I usually head home and eat a rather large meal of soup. I love soup, and my mom makes amazing Vietnamese congee and tomato soup. She always makes a double or triple batch, so we usually have leftovers.
While I’m eating food, I think about more food. Emily and I often make dinner, and by make, I mean prepare Green Chef meals.
After dinner, I begin my nightly routine, which is almost the same as my morning routine. I shower, do skincare, brush teeth, get dressed, and then retire to my room with a book. I say goodnight to my family, turn off the lights, say my prayers, and drift off into sleep.
I hope you enjoyed my daily rundown. Thank you for reading!
