My closet has always been something of a disaster.

When we moved home, and I got my bubblegum pink room, I realized there was not a lot of storage space. So, it was time to purge.

Here’s some advice: don’t make up excuses of why you need every single thing in your closet. You will not get anywhere.

The first thing you will need to do is empty out your whole closet. I know, sounds like a lot, but it will be easier when you can see everything in front of you. Get rid of the things you rarely or never wear. If it for the current season and you don’t see yourself wearing it in the next month, toss it (with the exception of special occasion clothes.) I recommend buying matching hangers for all of your clothes.

a classic outfit

For teens, here are some wardrobe staples I have realized you actually need on a daily basis:

  • a white t-shirt
  • a black t-shirt
  • camisoles
  • at least one pair un-ripped jeans
  • a sweater that can go over anything
  • a neutral-colored coat
  • black athletic shorts

My closet consists of a variety of sweaters at the moment, but hopefully in the next month or two I will be able to move into more warm-weather clothes. Don’t get me wrong, I love the feeling of cozy, winter vibes, but after Christmas, everybody is done feeling cooped up.

Make a promise to yourself: as soon as the clean laundry gets out of the dryer, hang it, sort it, or fold it. There will be no more random clothes piles on your bedroom floor.

My style advice series will be here soon, so read on!
